Today we went on a field trip with my studio class to the “malls” of Tuscany. The class is technically called “Display Design” so we thought these malls were going to have extravagant displays but that wasn’t the case. Instead of renting a bus, like we had originally planned, our professor, Franco, and another student, Pearse, drove their cars so we could save some money. The drive through Tuscany ended up being my favorite part of the trip.

The first mall we went to was basically an out-dated mall you find in the US… but with real marble floors. Our professor gave us a short 5 minute lecture and then sent us on to have our own “personal experience” with the mall…still not sure what that means. From there we headed to another outdoor outlet mall similar to Town Center or Zona Rosa. He used it as an example of bad design. Once again we were given time to experience the mall aka do some shopping and grab lunch.

The last mall was actually called “The Mall” and is a modern designer fashion outlet stuck in the Middle of Nowhere, Chianti. The place featured outlets by Gucci, Armani, Prada, Burberry, Etc. and had an affluent international clientele supporting them. Once we arrived back in Florence our teacher dropped us off right by our house so we didn’t have to walk the 20 minutes home from school!
