Sunday April 19, 2009

Our last day in Munich was full of bright sunshine. After checking out of our hostel we spent the day walking through the city retracing some of steps from our rainy day bike tour with Mel’s friends. Eventually we made it to the English gardens that were an entirely different scene from two days before. It was swarming with people strolling, riding bikes, sleeping in the grass, playing Frisbee, tanning, etc. We found the Chinese Temple that was desolate before was now packed with people eating and drinking.

Hungry and tired from walking we joined in for one final German meal before we left later that afternoon. I opted for the half chicken with sauerkraut that was sooo yummy. Now in a food coma we sought out a spot to lie in the grass for thirty minutes before heading back to the hostel.

The bus left Munich at 4:00pm for our long bus ride back to Florence. This trip we had daylight to watch the incredible scenery we missed on the drive up as we drove through the Alps in Germany and Austria, and then the beautiful Dolmites in northern Italy. The views were magnificent…I kept trying to take pictures but none of them did the landscape justice because of the glass reflection.

We made it back to Florence close to midnight and headed home realizing we had less than a month left in Europe. Sad.
